Cool new looks for the new cool season. Scottish weather
being what it is, changing fashion trends are sometimes the only way to
chart the seasons. Gone are the wishful thinking skimpy cottons. And in
their place? Just what is the look? Try looks. The only thing the fashion We say it every year, black is the new black, but this year it seems especially prevalent in both an urban goth setting and in chic little cashmere numbers. Taken further, the dramatic boudoir look - perhaps a little impractical all that antique lace and floor-length chiffon - but another big look should help you out. Your mother will certainly approve of this one - cosy. Chunky,
patterned knits and big comfy coats will be everywhere and topped off
with the latest - no, really - accessory, the long scarf. Remember Colin
Baker in Dr Who? That's the kind of length we're talking about! So, day is sorted, but what about night? Just `cos it's cold, doesn't mean you can't be cool. Going out is going to be glam with lots of lace, velvets and metallics, and even some colour. Check out plum tones for something dark and dramatic or feed it into the day with a soft faded look. Don't know where to start? Read on. For the first 18 months of its life, Roobedo (Roo is Ruth Morris's nickname) was a mail order company, but in August 2001 a shop sprang up in Fountainbridge and in April of this year an Internet service was established which has been attracting attention from Australia, Japan and America. Ruth's range is aimed at all women between 24 and 60, in sizes 8-20, with the option of a bespoke service. This autumn/winter she is working in fabrics with a high natural fibre content. Tweeds, denim, corduroy canvas and jersey are all big news, with giant prints of dandelion wind-clocks, flowers and flowing water on A-line skirts. Colours this season are, "Sea-scape greys, blues, whites and creams contrasted with feminine pinks, black and red."
