Ruth exhibited with the group designED in a show which considered the recycling and using of waste materials that are part of a designer/maker's cycle. Experimenting with Harris tweed paper and developing felting methods as well as collaborating with other designED artists to create one-off pieces for an exhibition which will then tour the UK.

Ruth has been dyeing up old jumpers to create soft knitwear pieces and mixing elaborate scarves woven by James Donald of PICK-ONE into elaborate daywear. Also, she has tumble-washed off-cuts of Harris tweed to create sea anemone brooches.

design-ED is a group of well-established, Edinburgh-based Applied Artists who regularly meet to exchange, review and develop ideas and techniques. Their exhibition “Green” is a characteristically collaborative affair which not only addresses issues of recycling old materials and waste, but also explores the recycling, regeneration and reinterpretation of each individual’s own practice, encompassing glass, textiles, ceramics, jewellery and papermaking.
