The List, May 2003

Ruth Morris is breaking ground in the latest collection for her label Roobedo. The classically designed basics for women still predominate, but prints abound and there's even the hint of evening wear in the summer range. 'Some of it is slightly more dressy,' says Morris. 'It's always been everyday clothing which you can dress up for the evening, but there's more instant evening appeal to what i'm doing now.'

Perhaps the stylistic move reflects the relocation of premises. Now selling among the array of indigenous designers in Concrete Wardrobe, Morris' designs are popular among women aged 26 - 40 who are looking for something more individual than the high street has to offer.

The Scottish College of Textiles graduate hopes to do more accessories later in the year, with menswear and a maternity collection still in the formative planning stages. Morris launched the label three years ago and says she makes around 70% of the clothes herself. 'That's the bit I love. That's why I did it in the first place, and it's quite hard to hand that over.'
Style ethos Classic shapes, simple designs and definitive basics which stand the test of time.

Career highpoint? 'Probably each year when I put together a new collection. But the highpoints are ongoing. As soon as you've reached one highpoint you're onto the next.'

*Roobedo designs can be found in Concrete Wardrobe, 317 - 319 Cowgate, Edinburgh; see www.roobedo.com for more details or call 0781 470 4256 for more information.
